Winning weekends have returned for the 1XI.
A day that started with a flat tyre for the skip and a hungover Gators was uplifted as we won the toss on a flatty. Naturally, we batted, although at 10-2, memories of last years batting collapses were all too vivid.
However, the ex-Clevedon (you wouldn’t have known it) combo of Ben Keysell and Connor Crane put on a gutsy display. Keysell showed prime jug avoidance, caught on 82. Connor Crane went further, notching up a run-a-ball hundred, with a Jason Crane photo to boot. This allowed Will Greatorex to hit “the biggest six we’ve ever seen” (Ollie Harris) and push OBWs to 285-5 off 45.
Heading out feeling confident, the bowlers kept tight channels with Clevedon reaching 151 all out. Stu MacArthur and George Willis take 4 a piece, with each keeping the jug avoidance theme going. The highlight of the fielding display were 2 good catches a piece for Keysell and Greatorex, only being marred by a classic Greatorex moment of trying to play cricket without a ball.
The 1s take maximum points and play Stapleton (A) next week.
