Sunday 2nd XI Report 2011

Alex Lee

North Somerset Sunday League Division 3 Winners!

won 12, lost 2. 4 cancelled or abandoned

Collecting the Trophy

Bristol Indians led the table right through the season and beat us twice. But we overtook them to win the league by a single point on the last day of the season when we won at Purnells and Indians lost on a wet wicket at Blagdon.

But the title was probably decided in two very close games at Failand & Portbury - In the first, we beat F&P by one run. They needed 3 off the last ball to tie the game but their 78 year old was run out by a yard coming back for the third. In the second Bristol Indians tied with F&P - costing them one vital point.

Brij

Brij "in the zone" again

Dil and Alex Lee each took 20 wickets in the season, but Dil was the more economical averaging just 7.7. Best individual performance of the season was Dil's 7 for 12 in 8 overs against Bear Flat - the best bowling figures in the history of the club according to PlayCricket. We had batted poorly and were bowled out for just 118. But Dil blew away their top seven batsmen with fast in-swinging yorkers - 5 clean bowled and 2 LBW.

Happy Days!

James Taylor was the most prolific batsman of the season but also dropped the most catches. He scored 695 runs in just 12 knocks averaging 69.5, including two hundreds, with a best score of 152 at Churchways. He also received a trophy from NSCL for the highest run scorer in Division 3. Zoravar, Freddie and Andy Thomas also made telling contributions with the bat and averaged over 40.

After four seasons at the helm I have finally managed to find a worthy successor / glutton for punishment in the form of our star batsman James Taylor, who I am certain will lead the side to greater things. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the last four years, including all the "regulars" and especially the tea ladies and helpers, and best of luck to JT next year.
